The old Karl would just think it’s normal - and maybe it is. But Karl would only reason this way as a means to stop feeling sad or scared, or maybe a just little bit of both. He would use that as an excuse to hide it, tuck it underneath the carpet and forget about it. He would argue that he would not get stronger, nor wiser being sad.
